Pricing Products and Services: Too High? Too Low? Or Just Right?

Speakers: Genie Gilliam and Cathie Izor

How do you know you're setting the right prices in your business? How do you cover your costs and make a profit? How do your prices compare to the competition? Do you charge more than your competitors or less? If you charge too little, you lose money. If you charge too much, your customers won't buy. This is a common struggle for small business owners.

This month two WESO members will share their experiences and ideas on pricing products and services. We'll look at how you consider direct and indirect costs when setting prices. We'll also look at how you include the value of your time in the pricing decision.

Our speakers manage diverse businesses so that we can explore the ins and outs of different kinds of pricing. Genie Gilliam, co-owner of Wagon Trail Foods, maker of Nut Fusions Nut Butters, has a forty year background as a business banker and five years in the food manufacturing industry. She will share a formula to help price products and understand mark-up versus margin, important terminology for those who sell to wholesale and retail markets.

Cathie Izor is a writer whose pricing focuses on the sale of a service. She started her own successful writing business in 1996 and has never looked back. Her writing projects include working at an hourly rate or with a project cost. She can help you evaluate pricing strategies for your service-oriented business.

Come with your questions and ideas to share.
