Community Works - Dunn House Shelter

Community Works - Dunn House Shelter provides a safe refuge and support services for women and children to help them escape from domestic or sexual abuse, stalking, trafficking and date violence. Women with or without children who are in fear from their intimate partner or family member may need to stay in a safe place while figuring out a longer term plan for safety, or have time to rest and learn about options.

Dunn House Shelter is a large home where several families reside. Food, clothing, and personal care items are provided and the services are free and confidential. Children at Dunn House Shelter have a safe place to play, to spend time with their mothers and to be involved in age appropriate activities. Advocates work with families to provide information, referrals to community services, and needed support.

Community Works - Dunn House Shelter will be accepting contributions at their table at the Entrepreneur Expo. Please contribute so that we help meet these critical needs of women in our community.

They can also use the following items:

  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, toothpaste, tooth brushes, hair brushes) – sample sizes also welcome
  • Bus passes/tokens
  • Gas cards

After staying at Dunn House Shelter many of the women are building a new life in a new home. They have fled their past lives with very little, often with only the clothes they were wearing, Anything that can help a person start a new life is needed. Especially household items such as pots and pans, dishes, utensils, sheets, blankets, new pillows, and towels. They can also use clothing for women, children and, especially teens. Baby items, such as diapers, are also needed.

Community Works - Dunn House Shelter helps some of these women with housing and rent because they do not have rental history or credit so cash donations are most needed.
