Simple Tips for Winning at Negotiations without Getting Dirty
Speaker: Robynne Whitaker
Many of us, especially women, think of negotiating as something to be avoided. It might be necessary, but it's conflict, right? Someone wins, someone loses. And even if both parties are aiming for a win/win solution, it can be scary to speak up for yourself and what you want.
But all of us negotiate every day. Whether you're trying to get teenagers to do homework or trying to appease an angry customer, you're negotiating. How can you do it more effectively, without ending up feeling frustrated or just plain slimy?
As a real estate broker, a big part of Robynne Whitaker's job is to negotiate on behalf of clients. Being in that position of trust puts the pressure on to do a good job! Robynne willl share with you a few simple techniques she's learned to make it easier to get (most of) what you want, most of the time, without feeling like you've been dragged through the mud.
Robynne Whitaker, GRI, is a real estate broker and principal with NW Real Estate Group at John L. Scott. Before becoming a broker, Robynne worked for 25 years in public relations and marketing communications. In her last position, she managed content, design and delivery for 10+ publications for a specialty publisher.
Robynne has a bachelor's degree in French literature from Mount Holyoke College and a master's in mass communications from Boston University.
