Preparing for a Media Presentation/ Interview:  What Nobody Ever Tells You

Speaker: Shannon Young

If there’s one thing people are afraid of it’s public speaking, whether in front of a live audience or a camera. But if you’re an independent business owner your goal is to get your product or service in front of as many people as possible, one on one or through the media.

So, how do you deliver your message in such a way that your audience remembers you and your business in a positive light? We’ll discuss ways to get the media’s attention, prepare for and deliver an interview, and feel good about it afterwards. Also, if you're thinking about developing your own video for social media, we'll talk about ways to be an effective on-camera "talent."

Shannon Young is a former University of Oregon Duck and graduate of Southern Oregon University, where she earned a degree in Human Communication. She began her career working in television news where she spent nearly 20 years as main news anchor, reporter and producer for TV stations in Oregon and Virginia. Shannon now uses her media skills as talent for television and radio commercials, as co-host on a radio music program, and as Marketing Coordinator/Social Media Manager for Butler Automotive Group.

Regular entrée – Roasted Turkey with Chef’s Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Fresh Sauteed Vegetables

Vegetarian option – Eggplant Parmesan

You may make a reservation online with payment or call in your attendance reservation. Please submit your reservation request (online payment or phone) by 9:00 p.m. on Monday, Dec 9th. Reservations made after this cut-off date cannot be guaranteed. Cancellations must also be received by that date or you will be responsible for payment of the uncancelled event.

  • Member - $18.00 (USD) for online registration and payment. Phone reservations and payment at the door - $20.00
  • Non-member - $23.00 (USD) for online registration and payment. Phone reservations and payment at the door - $25.00
  • Program only - $15.00 (USD) for online registration or payment at the door.
