ODOT Intermodal Civil Rights is hosting a FREE event in Medford to connect businesses with local transit agencies and public works departments.  When the panelists have been confirmed (soon) an agenda will be available at the registration site (RSVP is not mandatory).  The Transit and Public Works panelists will talk about what their agency/department does and any upcoming projects.  The businesses are encouraged to ask questions; how do they learn about the projects, respond and possibly get the work?

Douglas, Josephine and Jackson counties Transits and Public Works will be sharing business opportunities as noted above and below.  DAS will share how businesses can utilize the Oregon Procurement Information Network (ORPIN) to gain opportunities for their businesses.  The Office for Business Inclusion and Diversity (COBID) will be sharing how free certification gives businesses a more visible profile and other benefits.  G-CAP will be sharing information regarding State and Federal government contracting as well. Doing business with Transit and Public Works includes construction, service providers, product providers, graphic design, architects and engineers, tree cutters, planning, landscaping, drug/alcohol screening, etc.  Opportunities range from getting on a list to receive a “3 quote” call to submitting a RFP on ORPIN.

The SOU Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is offering a new workshop series called Fueling Up! for businesses that have been in operation for at least one year. These workshops have been custom designed for the Rogue Valley business community where the area’s uniqueness, including economic climate, culture, as well as local and tourist demographics, have been taken into account.

The first workshop is on March 31 from 9am to 12pm at the Higher Education Center in downtown Medford, where Donnie Maclurcan will present “Create a Successful Crowdfunding Campaign.” Popular sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo remain a mystery to many and entrepreneurs want to know how to create a campaign that stands out from the many thousands of others trying to secure funding. Donnie has raised over $100,000 with crowdfunding and he will demonstrate proven strategies that he used during his campaigns.

The subsequent workshops will include: “Everything is Possible with Marketing” by Ginger Johnson, “The Power of Publicity (How to get ink, air, and face time in the media)” by Lisa Manyon, and “Understanding Financials for the Everyday Business Person” by Jack Vitacco and Russ Kennedy.

There is a $75 cost per workshop or $225 for the series. Through the generous sponsorship of Umpqua Bank, limited scholarships are available.

For more information, call 541-552-8300 or register online at sou.edu/sbdc/fuelingup.html

The SOU SBDC is partially funded by the Small Business Administration and the Oregon Business Development Department. In-depth and confidential no-cost business advising services as well as affordable workshops, presentations, and access to business resources are available.
